How it Works | TEACHER-DIRECTED INSTRUCTION
Helping Teachers Differentiate Instruction
Technology plays a role in making personalized learning effective; however, teachers play the primary role in ensuring learning will be successful. Reading Plus’ approach helps teachers support students as they advance from struggling readers to proficient readers. Reading Plus offers comprehensive online instruction as well as printable materials for direct instruction and differentiation at the class, small group, and individual level.
Data to Drive Instruction
From the Teacher Dashboard, teachers can access student analytics and class-readiness reports that inform planning and allow them to quickly monitor student performance. Class Skill Reports group students who are struggling with the same comprehension sub-skills and links to offline comprehension skill worksheets that provide a starting point for remediation.
Direct Instruction and Differentiation
Reading Plus features comprehensive online instruction as well as printable materials for direct instruction and differentiation at the class, small group, and individual level. Lessons are automatically recommended for students based on their performance and can be flexibly delivered in a variety of ways. The animated online lessons have been designed for teacher-led instruction and follow the “Gradual Release” model, providing Basic and Intermediate lessons and practice with more than 20 critical reading skills.
Extensive Skill Activities
Printable resources are provided to reinforce and extend learning. These materials can be incorporated into classroom routines or used for home practice to build independence, increase automaticity, and expand expressive skills.
Integrated Writing
Reading Plus provides two types of highly crafted, extended-response writing.
- Close reading prompts ensure students become attentive readers who look closely at text, interpret it responsibly and rigorously, cite text evidence accurately, and reflect on what it means.
- Writing prompts reinforce the comprehension of sub-skills.
